Hancock County - U.S. Navy
The United States took two parcels along the Pearl River in Hancock County, Mississippi for use as live fire training range by the U.S. Navy's Special Boat Team 22 based at Stennis Space Center. The parcels had significant deposits of sand and gravel but the government took the position that these deposits did not add value to the property. The property owners obtained experts who confirmed the marketability of the deposits and the enhancement of the value of the property resulting from the deposits. The case was ultimately settled through mediation soon before trial.
